Think You Can Invest in ChatGPT? Not Exactly, But Here’s What You Can Do

ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, has gained significant popularity in the past year. It has become a tool for students seeking help with their homework or for businesses interested in customer service applications. Naturally, this has led people to ask whether they can invest in it. The short answer is no. ChatGPT is not a separate business entity; OpenAI, its parent company, still remains in private hands. Consequently, you will not see the ticker symbol for “ChatGPT” on any stock exchange.

But that doesn't mean investors are left out in the cold. There are a number of large companies closely associated with ChatGPT and artificial intelligence in general that are publicly traded. Microsoft has invested billions into OpenAI and is integrating ChatGPT into many of its products, from Word to Bing. Nvidia is another major player: its graphic chips basically drive the architecture for advanced AI models such as ChatGPT. If anyone is trying to ride the AI boom, stock in those sorts of companies is a fairly popular choice.

AI-focused ETFs are for people who are not inclined toward choosing individual stocks. These funds diffuse your money into dozens of companies involved in machine learning, robotics, and automation-another decent way to go for diversification without having to put all your money on one stock.

Of course, with all the excitement, you would be wise to keep some level of tempered expectation. AI is advancing pretty rapidly but is still a pretty unpredictable domain. The firms at the lead today may easily fall back tomorrow, and market hype seldom matches long-term value. You cannot purchase stock in ChatGPT, but you can ride the wave in many ways-so long as you do your due diligence!
